Business leadership author and entrepreneur Shawn Hunter grew up in grew up in northern Virginia. While in high school, Hunter made his first trip to Maine to work at a hotel on Lake Sebago, where he fell in love with Maine and his future wife. Hunter attended St Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina and earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government.
While in the studio Hunter told Stevoe about how in 1993, he was in Korea teaching English when his dad first pitched the idea of broadcasting live, interactive learning to businesses using satellites. In 1995, Hunter and his father, Hal Hunter, founded Targeting Learning Corporation (TLC), which provided organizations with solutions to develop managers and for managers to develop their teams, through both live and video mediums. TLC was acquired by Skillsoft in 2007, where Hunter has been the Executive Producer & Vice President for Leadership Development Channel. Skillsoft delivers cloud-based tailor-made training programs on a wide variety of essential business skills for organizations.
During Hunter’s time with Skillsoft, he has interviewed, collaborated with, and filmed, hundreds of leading business authors, executives, and many business school faculty in an effort to assemble the most relevant video learning solutions. The Leadership Development Channel offers Leadership Quick Talks, which are five minute video learning programs, designed for immediate and contextual application to drive success in the workplace. The Channel also offers CEO Quick Talks, which offer information from Michael Dell, Jack Welch, Anne Mulcahy and more of today’s top business leaders and practitioners.
“Out Think: How Innovative Leaders Drive Exceptional Outcomes” is about next generation leadership, and it’s about building a growth mindset, and cultivating innovation, and creating remarkable workplaces. For this book, Hunter collaborated with and interviewed many executives, academic leaders and thought-leaders from the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. The book is outlined as so each chapter offers a key idea with techniques to show how the idea can be implemented with real-world examples.
