In the first hour, host Stevoe and studio contributor Debi Davis discuss competence as it pertains to business and public service.  In the second hour. Dr. Richard Maurer stops by the TideSmart studio for a discussion on alternative solutions in health and wellness.  Maurer is a naturopathic doctor at the Coastal Naturopathic Center in Falmouth. He specializes in natural therapies for metabolic conditions including type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes and thyroid conditions. Through effective diagnosis and treatment, he helps people reverse the metabolic condition behind weight problems, migraines, cholesterol and other heart disease risks.

Dr. Richard Maurer has practiced Naturopathic medicine in Maine since 1994. His new project in 2013 will be Maine Metabolism, which he says is for the 40% of people that are likely to become type 2 diabetic and insulin resistant if they continue down the same path that they currently follow.

Maurer has lived and practiced naturopathic medicine in Maine since
1994, with emphasis on nutrition and herbal medicine for allergic conditions,
including asthma, eczema, ADHD and many other childhood conditions.
Maurer is part of the Coastal Natural Health Center, which offers treatment for many chronic conditions. The practice
focuses on preventative care through the use of naturopathic medical care,
acupuncture, herbal and homeopathic medicine and manipulative treatment.

Through effective diagnosis and treatment, he addresses weight issues, thyroid problems, anemia, pre-/diabetes, digestive diseases and food allergies. He applies the FatBack Diet Principles for many conditions, including ADD and autism.

Beginning January 2013, Maurer will be out of general practice to start work on
“the most important issue facing an individual’s health;” metabolic conditions
such as type 2 diabetes and prediabetes symptoms that can be successfully
prevented and treated with diet, fitness and clinical nutrition.  Maine Metabolism will be Maurer’s new project in 2013.

Maurer and Stevoe talked about why people do naturopathic therapy and common dietary mistakes that we as a society are making which increase instances of heart disease.
