U.S. Congressman Mike Michaud<\/a> was raised in Medway, Maine and is the second of six children.\u00a0 After graduating from Schenck High School in East Millinocket, he followed in his\u00a0family’s footsteps\u00a0and began work at the Great Northern Paper Company.\u00a0 He worked for GNP for over twenty years, and after noticing the pollution of the Penobscot River near his home, decided to run for and was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 1980.\u00a0 Michaud served seven consecutive terms in the House, and then ran for Maine Senate in 1994.<\/p>\n

Michaud served four terms\u00a0in the Maine Senate from 1994 untill 2003.\u00a0 In 2000, Michaud was unamimously elected Maine Senate President.\u00a0 Since 2003, Michaud has served as the U.S. Representative for Maine’s 2nd congressional district.<\/p>\n

Michaud has worked with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) on many projects, and is\u00a0advocate for more extensive veteran benefits, even serving as Chairman of the Health Subcommittee of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee.\u00a0 Stevoe and Michaud talked about how Maine’s population is 16% veterans, which\u00a0ranks Maine as having the second highest veteran population in the nation.<\/p>\n

Stevoe and Michaud discussed celebrating our nation’s birthday and the great patriotism seen in Maine.\u00a0 They also spoke about the importance of\u00a0having the youth engaged in politics.<\/p>\n

The two bumped into each other at the Eastern Promenade Fourth of July fireworks show, and had the chance to talk democracy and patriotism. They also spoke about the importance of the younger generation being involved, active and interested in politics.
