President of Elliotsville Plantation Inc. (EPI),\u00a0<\/a>Lucas St. Clair was born in Dover-Foxcroft and grew up in Guilford.\u00a0 St. Clair is the son of Roxanne Quimby, the\u00a0co-founder of Burt’s Bees.\u00a0 St. Clair graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel.\u00a0 After high school he attended Le Cordon Bleu in London and earned a degree in Culinary Arts.\u00a0 St. Clair returned to the states and ran a restaurant in Winter Harbor from 1999-2004, called \u201cJ.M. Gerrish\u201d.<\/p>\n

From 2007-2012, St. Clair was in Seattle, Washington working in the wine business and as a fishing guide.\u00a0 Here he met his wife, and in 2012 they moved back to Maine.<\/p>\n

In January 2012, St. Clair became board president of the Elliotsville Plantation Inc., taking over for his mother.\u00a0 Most of his time has been spent working\u00a0to\u00a0bring a National Park to Maine, as well as opening the land for snowmobile and ATV trails and hunting.\u00a0\u00a0St. Clair told Stevoe about the benefits that a National Park would bring to the region of northern Maine and how the foundation wants to bring the best of both worlds to those communities affected.\u00a0 St. Clair hopes to conserve land in the North Maine Woods for future generation\u2019s recreation, sporting, and conservation pursuits.<\/p>\n

Elliotsville Plantation Inc. is the private, nonprofit foundation Quimby created to manage the land and the National Park idea.\u00a0 The Elliotsville Plantation is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of public land in Maine.\u00a0 They currently hold around 100,000 acres along both sides of the East Branch of the Penobscot River, east of Baxter State Park, from approximately Grand Lake Matagamon in the north to the Stacyville Road in the south.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Lucas St. Clair was recently in the TideSmart Talk with Stevoe studio to talk with host Steve Woods about his plan for a possible National Park in the Maine north woods. St. Clair and Stevoe discussed how his mother happened to become involved with Burt’s Bees and the fortunate timing of her purchasing land in the 1990’s while mills were divesting their land.
