Avery Day is a public policy advocate and attorney at Pierce Atwood. Avery is a native Mainer, growing up on the island of Vinalhaven in a fishing family. Day attended The George Washington University in Washington D.C. and earned his bachelor’s degree in History. Day then went on to graduate from Harvard Law School.
From 2002 through 2006, Day worked on Capitol Hill for U.S. Senator Susan Collins. During this time he advised Collins on fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, agriculture, international trade and specific appropriations issues. Day also interacted with constituents, advocacy groups, and state and federal agencies to develop legislative and policy advice for the senator. As part of the Senator’s team, Day gained a perspective on both politics and policy and developed numerous relationships with businesses and industry associations throughout the state. Day told Stevoe that this work was extremely important to him, as there are few places one can work as a 22 year old, and make such an impact.
In 2009, Day became an attorney at Pierce Atwood. His work focuses on public policy advocacy. Day primarily practices in the firm’s Government Relations Practice Group, dividing his time between Pierce Atwood’s Augusta and Portland offices. He represents Maine-based, national and international businesses as well as Maine-based and national trade associations before the Maine Legislature and administrative agencies.
Day has received numerous achievements including, assisting a Maine-based company in securing an energy-related sales tax exemption, securing administrative licenses for an international corporation seeking to distribute pharmaceutical products in Maine and obtaining an amendment of state-level tax program to allow a business client to access tens of millions of dollars in additional tax incentives.
Pierce Atwood is more than 120 years old. It is a regional law firm with more than 140 attorneys that provide a full array of legal services in New England and beyond.
